Lady Berkeley reports to her husband on conditions in Virginia after his recall to England in the aftermath of Bacon's Rebellion. She mentions Col. Francis Moryson's compilation of grievances, and rumors that he would replace Berkeley as governor after reporting favorably toward the rebels to King Charles II. She reports further troubles including the release of Robert Jones, the rumored capture of Col. Joseph Bridger, a rescue of the sheriff by Edward Hill, the disruption of the court by William Sherwood, the public insulting of Nathaniel Bacon, Sr., and concludes that conditions are far worse than originally found by the king's commissioners.
